Network Operations Center (NOC) Engineer
Summary
We are seeking Junior through Senior Network Operations Center (NOC) Engineers to become an integral part of our team.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Work with clients and other team members to resolve issues
- Ability to be on call and part of the escalation team as needed
- Implement local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), intranets, extranets, and other data networks
- Develop and execute test plans to check infrastructure and system performance
- Perform network modeling and analysis
- Perform additional duties as needed
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may function as a technical lead if complicated installations require the assistance of a helper or intern.
NOC Junior Tech
- Good phone answering and customer support skills
- Ability to enter information on web forms
- Familiar with common network management and troubleshooting tools (e.g. ping, traceroute)
- Can evaluate remote customer sites against a checklist criteria to perform a site survey
- Can maintain proper inventory management of equipment coming in, equipment going out, asset tags, and vehicle resupply
- Can disconnect departing customer equipment and return to inventory (decommission site)
NOC Engineer
- All the requirements of NOC Junior Tech plus:
- Basic ability to analyze and troubleshoot Juniper or Mikrotik router configurations; experience with Adtran and Cisco, a plus
- Basic familiarity with SIP, IP, ATAs, Linux system administration
- Ability to evaluate site needs vs site requirements in advance of installation (site survey)
- Ability to connect equipment onsite to activate new customer (site install)
NOC Senior Engineer
- All the requirements of NOC Engineer plus:
- High familiarity with IPv4, IPv6, OSPF, BGP, and MPLS/LDP
- Can troubleshoot and design complex router configurations; emphasis on Juniper and Mikrotik configurations
- Skilled in ensuring best practices for securing network devices
- Working knowledge of Quality of Service in a Voice Over IP environment
- Skilled with Network Management tools (Monitoring, flow analysis, graphing)
- Ability to communicate well with telecommunications carriers for circuit provisioning and troubleshooting
- Experience with microwave networking preferred but not required
- Can independently identify areas needing improvement or change and bring to management’s attention
- Can participate in the planning process for long-term company goals
Additional Qualifications
- Previous experience in networking, IT, or other related fields
- Familiarity with architectural specifications
- Familiarity with researching communication networks
- Strong troubleshooting and critical thinking skills
- Strong attention to detail
